What We Do

Parish Ministry

Priests and Brothers of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) have been working in parishes since the time of our foundation by St. Vincent de Paul in the 17th century. The Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission administers parishes in New York, parishPennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina and Alabama. Our parishes are located in both rural and urban areas.

Parish priests are the shepherds of the local community and work under the authority of the local bishop in whose ministry of Christ they are privileged to share. Vincentian parish priests work in collaboration with the local clergy and religious, especially the Daughters of Charity. The life of a parish priest is very rewarding as you will be very intimately involved in the daily lives of your parishioners and share in their joys and sorrows. You will be celebrating Mass and the Sacraments with your parishioners each day. You will be working in the parish school and visiting the sick and homebound. You will have the honor of being with your parishioners at baptisms, first communions, weddings, and funerals. Working in parishes is a very fulfilling way to live out the Vincentian charism.
